MS-DOS commands part 2



     Root Directory :-
It is the main directory of the MS-DOS file system . This directory is created at the time of formatting . It is represented by “\” . Any directory which is created after root directory are created under root directory .
     Parent Directory:-
In MS-DOS file system a directory has a directory which is one level above it . This directory which is one level above is known as parent directory .

Current Directory:-

In MS-DOS user can easily move from one directory to another . The directory in which user is currently working is known as current directory .

MD (Make Directory ) Command:-

I started working in drive D as my current working directory . I typed the command md and a name (the name of the new directory which is created) . If your starting directory is any other directory then you can simply type the command as D: or C: to move to the respective directory . Now you can navigate to the drive and find that a new folder is created (the name is same as you typed with md command).

1.     COPY:- While working on PC you would like to make copies of your files . Similarly you would like to keep backup of your data . For the purpose we copy data to the same directory or to a different directory. Suppose we want to copy a file to the same directory follow the steps given .

If we want to copy a file from one disk to another disk then we can follow the steps given below .
Give the command COPY , write the name of the file with its extension and then write the name of the destination directory where you want a copy.


 
command Copy D:*.pdf copies all the pdf files from drive D: to the working directory.
